You can quickly log in to your library account from the homepage of the library.
Click the library account button and you may need to sign in to your Office365 account if you are not currently signed in elsewhere.
This ensures your account is connected to any searches you make to save relevant resources, to check on your loaned items for renewals or overdue materials, to request items through interlibrary loan and to place holds on books in the library that we can pull for you!
Once you are logged in, the landing page will show current check-outs on your account. You can request a renewal by clicking the resources you would like to keep longer, confirming with the pop-up box, and noting the new due date.
Quick steps to renew items:
1. Select which item you would like to request a renewal for to begin.
2. Confirm your request with the pop-up window.
3. If there isn't anyone waiting for the book or this is your first renewal attempt, your renewal will automatically process and display a new due date.
You can always contact the front-desk by phone, email, or in-person if you have any trouble.
The library can get items for you that we do not currently hold in our digital or print collection. This process is called InterLibrary Loan. You can use the PSC catalog to search for ILL (steps below) or submit a request separately from our system and fill in all the relevant information you have available.
Quick steps for ILL:
1. The quickest way to perform a request is to begin by logging into your library account (directions above) and then expand your searches beyond the Paul Smith's College Library limiter on the left hand side.
2. Select "Libraries Worldwide" to search outside of PSC, then explore the results.
3. Locate the resource you would like to use and click on the title.
4. Then click Request Item through InterLibrary Loan.
5. Since you logged in at the beginning of your search, all of your information is already preloaded into the form.
6. The last step is to select a date for delivery and hit submit.
7. Wait for an email from the library to let you know how to retrieve the article online or when to pick up the print book in person at the library. Check your spam folder too!
The library circulating collection includes all of book stacks on the second floor, the new nonfiction/new fiction section on the first-floor lobby, and the popular fiction/oversize books at the back of the first floor.
The PSC Library uses the Dewey Decimal System to organize the book stacks. While we hope you learn to use the organization system over time, we are happy to retrieve an item for you if you place a hold request for an item.
Quick steps to place a "hold" on an item to pick-up at the front desk:
1. First, log in to your library account.
2. Next, return to search in the library catalog for just Print Books, if you are looking for a specific book, search by author or title. If you are browsing, put in a general subject term instead.
3. Next, find the item you would like to check-out. Click on the link on the title.
4. Click on the button to place a hold.
5. Complete any relevant fields in the form, like a specific date or volume. Then submit.
6. Wait to receive an email from the library, confirming that your book is ready for pick-up at the front desk.
If the book is already checked out, you will be added to the queue and informed when it's your turn for the item.
Check your spam folder just in case too!
We try to check the list daily M-F and pull requested holds at least once per day.
